Panteia, together with the Università degli Studi Roma Tre and Polis, have been awarded the study on "Relaunching transport and tourism in EU after COVID-19" by the European Parliament. The main goal of this project is to critically examine the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the EU transport and tourism sectors, and provide clear policy recommendations to address the challenges emerging from the crisis.
For this project, we will present an overview of the impacts of COVID-19 on the two sectors, notably on the basis of relevant indicators identified by the contractor: overall economic indicators, specific indicators relating to overall transport trends and to the distinct transport modes and tourism. Furthermore, we will summarize the EU and key national policy actions in the field of tourism and transport since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis and a selection of best practices put in place in order to relaunch transport and tourism. Additionally, we will identify the emerging developments and foreseeable structural trends and shifts in market supply/demand affecting tourism and transport. Finally, we will provide recommendations for short-and medium- term policy responses at EU level, ideally in synergy with national measures. These policy recommendations will aim at supporting the sectors’ recovery and enhancing their resilience.
