At a time when Europe’s economy is stagnant, governments are looking to invest in major long-term transport infrastructure projects to create jobs, foster modal shift and to improve efficiency.
At European level, there have been a series of corridor initiatives to develop cross-border co-operation on infrastructure development, culminating in the nine Core Network Corridor studies in 2014. The European Commission has established a set of technical requirements which need to be implemented within the TEN-T core network by 2030 and within the wider, comprehensive network by 2050.
In 2014, the European Commission launched nine Core Network Corridor studies to define the corridors in detail, to analyse compliance with TEN-T technical requirements, to identify critical issues and to set out implementation plans listing potential investments. These challenging studies form the basis for the corridor work plans.
Panteia has an extensive track record in relation to TEN-T development and involvement in European corridors from the original TEN-T priority projects, the ERTMS corridors, the rail freight corridors, to the current Core Network corridors.
